09/07/09 - North Pond / Lake Maspenock - Hopkinton, MA
the plan was to try whitehall reservoir today. got on the water and there were a bunch of speed boats and jet skis. this was odd as i had read on the state website these were not allowed here. we dealt with it and went about fishing.
throughout the day at least 2 boats and 2 jet skis came within 20-30 yards of us at full speed. we took on water from the waves of one of them. at that point i got pissed and actually called the number for hopkinton state park to complain. they did not answer. it would have been rather embarrassing if they had. turns out, we were at the wrong place, lol. didn't realize it until we got home and i double checked the map.
we had spent the day at north pond because i hadn't paid enough attention to the directions. the two ponds are not more than a mile apart.
the fishing wasn't bad if you can deal with the obnoxious speed boats and jet skis. these people definitely did not have any respect for any of us smaller boats that were on the water.
we ended the day with 8 total. 7 largemouth, all in the 12-14 range. and a 1-1/2 lb smallie.
i liked the fact that there is a steep drop off about 5 - 10 feet from the shore. the water gets deep quickly. most were caught within 30 yards of the shore in the open sun light as the water was deep enough and weedy enough to provide cover for the fish. i would like to go back later in the month and try this place again when the recreation season slows down.
